Fangshan district will begin to build a 57.3-km-long greenway along the South-North Water Diversion Middle Route in 2018, reported Beijing Daily on January 17, 2018.

The greenway will start construction in February and be completed by the end of 2018.

Upon its completion, it will connect with the greenway of Beijing Garden Expo Park and form a 122-km-long cycling greenway from Liuliqiao Bridge in downtown to Yunju Temple in Fangshan district.

Starting from Qinglong Lake Township and ending at Yunju Temple, the greenway will cross Chengguan subdistrict and six towns of Qinglong Lake, Zhoukoudian, Hancunhe, Changgou, Shilou and Dashiwo.

This greenway not only has abundant water resources along the South-North Water Diversion Middle Route, but also neighbors several scenic spots like Qinglong Lake Forest Park, Wohushan Eco-Forest Park, Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian, Changgou Springwater National Wetland Park, Tiankai Temple and Yunju Temple.

Thus, this greenway will be built into a comfortable waterside green landscape belt with slow traffic spaces via integrating existing woodland, according to an official from the district’s garden bureau.

In addition, Fangshan will continue to expand regional green ecological space so as to provide more green leisure space for residents in 2018, he added.
