Zhang Yi, member of 13th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Beijing Committee and director from Beijing Academy of Educational Sciences, attended the 1st Session of the 13th CPPCC Beijing Committee with 77 proposals given by primary and middle students in Beijing.

These proposals concerning education, environmental protection, science and technology, coordinated development within the Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei region and city planning have drawn the attention of many members of 13th CPPCC Beijing Committee and some of the proposals will be submitted after improvement.

Zhang introduced that the 77 proposals were made by students under experts’ guidance after they studied and researched on the social issues they had been concerned about. Some students propose to build more activity places for children in Tongzhou District, subcenter of Beijing, while some students propose to promote recycling of books in the Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei region.

“I will discuss these students’ proposals with other members and change children’s ideas into real proposals so as to promote children’s ability and social development,” Zhang said.

According to Zhang, Beijing Youth Science and Technology Innovation Institute launched a “little eagle project” nine years ago, which encouraged students to make suggestions on the problems they met in life and study. After several years of development, the first mock CPPCC session for primary and middle students in Beijing was held in 2016, during which students submitted and discussed proposals. It helped students understand the theoretical knowledge of CPPCC and experience the practice of socialist democracy.

Many of the 77 proposals Zhang brought to the session were selected from the proposals submitted to the mock CPPCC session held in Beijing on January 8 this year.
