Beijing Zhongguancun’s enterprises are estimated to gross over 5 trillion yuan(about 782 billion US dollars) in 2017, said Zhai Lixin, director of Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science Park, Haidian district, in an interview called “Dialogue of Citizens and Chief heads” on January 23, 2018.
Zhongguancun expedites to turn itself into a world leading science and technology park and it has become a golden calling card of Beijing as a national science and technology innovation center.
Zhongguancun’s enterprises above designated sizes gained a gross revenue of 4.2 trillion yuan from January to November in 2017 and got a total profits of 375.8 billion yuan, up 14.2 percent and 30.2 percent year-on-year respectively.
Those enterprises own 79,000 valid patents of invention, accounting for over 60 percent of the city’s total.
“Zhongguancun boasted 67 unicorn companys(startups valued at more than $1 billion) in 2017, including Xiaomi, DiDi Chuxing, Jinri Toutiao and Meituan. The number is equivalent to a half of China’s total, second to Silicon Valley in the United States,” said Zhai.
As for entrepreneurship, in the year of 2017 alone, over 30,000 sci-tech companies were registered in Zhongguancun, which means more than 80 entrepreneurs on average were “born” per day there.
In terms of venture capital investment, Zhongguancun was home to more than 10,000 investors and over 900 investment institutions.
The total investment amount of 2017 was about 110 billion yuan and both its investment cases and volume accounted for over 30 percent of the whole nation.
