Beijing should build more exclusive bus lanes on qualified roads and install intelligent violation-detecting and snapshotting equipment on buses across the city, proposed by Liu Meilian, deputy to the 15th Beijing Municipal People’s Congress and driver of Beijing bus Line 104, who arrived for the 1st Session of the 15th Beijing Municipal People’s Congress on January 23, 2018.

Liu expressed that as a bus driver, she deeply felt the importance of exclusive bus lanes in Beijing. “Previously I made field research and called for opening exclusive bus lanes on the main Third Ring Road in Beijing. The proposal was later implemented and it turned out to be very effective for the bus speed has greatly increased. This year, I will continue to suggest the government build more exclusive bus lanes on qualified roads to facilitate citizens’ travel,” she said.

In addition, Liu found another problem in her daily work that there is a serious phenomenon of occupying exclusive bus lanes by social vehicles. “I often see social vehicles occupying the exclusive bus lane when I drive buses from Jiangzhaikou to Ditan every day. It not only hinders the speed of buses, but also causes a safety hazard to traffic,” said Liu, who proposed to install intelligent violation-detecting and snapshotting equipment on citywide buses and punish those violations with the help of traffic management departments.

Liu added that now the detecting and snapshotting equipment is only installed on the buses running on several roads like Chang’an Avenue, which is far from sufficient to meet the demand in Beijing.
