A total of 35 deputies to the 15th Beijing Municipal People’s Congress (BMPC) jointly proposed on rural vitalization strategy on January 25, 2018, Beijing Daily reported on Friday.

They proposed that villages with good conditions should be supported to build countryside complexes which integrate the nature, sightseeing, leisure and recreation, taking farmer cooperatives as the key carrier, and farmers should fully join in the construction of countryside complexes and benefit from it.

This bill was given by Duan Ran, a deputy to BMPC. Dr Duan, has over 20 years’ experiences of research and practice on issues of agriculture, countryside and peasants and owns more than 20 national invention patents on agriculture.

“Dacun Village, Yanchi Township, Mentougou district is a distinctive village as it has not only 1,000 mu tea garden on mountain but also a section of ancient Great Wall. Qianlu Village, Beixiaoying Township, Shunyi district, the venue for rowing race of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, is located along the Grand Canal cultural belt and has abundant tourism resources. Villages like those have a foundation to build a countryside complex,” said Duan, who made investigations to several villages before the BMPC.

Duan thought a multi-industry countryside complex will not only make urban citizens experience countryside life but also beautify country, enrich farmers and further realize the rural vitalization.

Duan’s bill was supported by other 34 deputies from nine districts. The “Pursuing a rural vitalization strategy, promoting integration development of urban and rural” strategy was included in the Beijing Municipal Government’s annual work report.
