Subway sees 2.6 pct drop in passenger volume

Political advisers of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference went for a field trip at Subway Line 14 and some other key construction projects on the morning of January 14, 2016.

The administrative body said the city’s subway lines had seen a 2.6 percent decline in passenger volume since the adjustment of ticket prices.

By the date of the inspection, it said, the subway had handled 199 illegal cases.

The head of the Beijing Railway Construction Company introduced that the entire subway network currently transports almost 10 million passengers in a day. By the end of the 13th Five Year Plan(2016- 2020), another 349-kilometer railway will be added, expending the network up to 903 kilometers in length.

The company said during the 13th Five Year Plan, 12 subway lines are scheduled to be paved, seven lines including Batong and Changping lines will be extended southward.
