The fourth session of the 14th Beijing Municipal People’s Congress kicked off at 9:00 am of January 22, 2016 in Beijing. Beijing Mayor Wang Anshun presented a report on the work of the municipal government during the opening ceremony.
In the 2016 session, the congress puts nine items on the agenda, including deliberating the municipal government work report and examining the implementation of the ordinance of home-based care for the aged.
A total of 704 deputies from districts including Haidian, Xicheng, Dongcheng, Chaoyang, and Fengtai took part in the opening ceremony. Besides the government work report, they will examine the layout of the 13th Five Year Plan, as well as deliberate the work report of the Municipal People’s Congress, the work reports of the Municipal People’s Court and the Municipal People's Procuratorate.
Four news conferences are expected to be held during the session. Officials at government bodies are to respond to the public concerns about four hot issues of “diffusing non-capital functions and the coordinating development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei”, “the enforcement situation of the ordinance of the home-based care for the aged”, “air pollution management and water environment construction” and “works on traffic congestion easing”.
