Deputy to the Beijing Municipal People’s Congress Liu Meilian is a public bus driver with a driving experience of 15years. She focuses on public green traffic from her work perspective.
She suggested applying the public bus lane to all roads and eliminating the restriction of its operation time. And non-public-bus autos should be given a heavier fine if they occupy a bus lane.
As one of the Line 127 drivers, Liu shuttles back and forth between Hepingli and Beijing Railway Station every day. She said she often saw private cars driving in the public lane when they were not supposed to. It should take only 40 minutes to run a single trip according to Line127’s standard. However, it took at least one hour in real life as long as the bus lane was occupied illegally. Complaints from passengers are almost routines. She hopes a bus-mounted camerais allowed to record illegal occupying of a public bus lane.
In off-peak hours, non public bus vehicles are allowed to drive in a bus lane. She also hopes a bus lane is public bus only with no time difference, a way brings real convenient public transportation.
