Political Adviser and deputy director of Shijingshan Health Bureau Li Fengqin said a refuse landfill is the ultimate venue to digest city wastes. Dense contaminants in a landfill leachate impose quit high pollution risks to the underground water below. Therefore, underground water below a landfill should be monitored citywide.
Li Fengqin introduced 66 percent of standard landfills and at least 98 percent informal landfills in the city have not had an efficient monitor of their underground water. And monitoring wells in 19 standard landfills are not deployed as scientifically as they should.
She suggested monitoring underground water below every refuse landfill throughout the city, including examining a monitoring well’s facilities, position, etc.
