As non-capital function is being transferred to neighboring provinces, some villages are forgotten in the corner of the city, interspersed with sky scrapers. Liulitun Village of Chaoyang District is one of these kinds.
Yue Hongsheng, member of CPPCC Beijing Committee, suggested that these “forgotten city villages” should be on the transform agenda against the background of the transferring non-capital function campaign.
The city village in Dongfengxiang is surrounded by glamorous tall buildings and inviting neighborhood: to its east is Honglingjin Park and East Fourth Ring Road green belt; to its north is the Sun Park. “But infrastructures in Liulitun are extremely lagged behind. Shabby houses there are intolerable to the eye. Moreover, there are two low-end markets around, furtherly degrading the environment,” Yue Hongsheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Returned Overseas Chinese Federation said. “Urbanization is the general trend, we will respond actively.”
Yue said he wanted to raise governmen tconcern about Liulitun through his proposal, because the village’s upgrade is more than a problem of money, it needs government coordination and communication. He thought the upgrade is in the public interests, “We ought to take the advantage of the campaign of transferring non-capital functions.” He believed a brandnew impression on a forgotten city village will replace the old.
